Rejuvenating the NAC
The National Arts Centre (NAC) in Ottawa, Canada, an iconic cultural institution, underwent a significant heritage rejuvenation aimed at preserving its historical significance while enhancing its functionality for contemporary artistic endeavors. Originally inaugurated in 1969, the NAC has played a pivotal role in Canada’s cultural landscape. Its architectural and historical importance prompted a thoughtful initiative to revitalize and preserve the site for future generations.Â
Eric Rodrigues, as a Senior Architect, had a pivotal role in the project, and was involved in every stage of the design since early schematics to construction documents, leading the efforts to design the new exterior glass envelope that encloses the original heritage structure.
The completed project has received multiple design awards and is regarded as one of the most successful heritage rejuvenation projects in Canada.
