The Roundhouse
The John Street Roundhouse was declared a National Historic Site in 1990 as an “architecturally and historically important surviving reminder of steam technology, and for the role, this structure played in rail transportation in the City of Toronto”.
The successful re-invention of this iconic, semi-circular piece of heritage has had an important and positive impact on the neighboring community and on Toronto itself. This semi-circular, timber, and brick industrial heritage building has managed to help define the urban form of the area as the forest of residential towers grew up around.
The Roundhouse and park have become the open space, playground, and dog park for the residents of these new towers as well as completing the entertainment, tourism hub with the CN Tower, Roger’s Centre, and Ripley’s.
