When our clients initially outlined their project, they presented a long-nurtured vision: a comprehensive overhaul of their backyard space, encompassing the creation of a Guest House, a Swimming Pool, and versatile outdoor areas for entertainment and relaxation.
Challenges
The Guest House was envisioned as a year-round haven, serving as a poolside retreat in the warmer months and a guest sanctuary throughout the rest of the year. Our mission: to enhance energy efficiency, reducing dependence on mechanical heating and cooling.
Our journey posed a significant challenge: the artful fusion of a sloping terrain with a well-planned layout for the guest house and pool. The guiding principle was crystal clear—a design that seamlessly wove into the lush natural tapestry of the backyard. We aspired to an aesthetic characterized by simplicity, meaningful modernity, and enduring excellence.
Solution
Our design solution relied on locally sourced materials, with limestone and wood taking center stage, merging effortlessly with the surroundings. Expansive glass walls blurred the lines between indoors and outdoors, while the sloped roof added a captivating dimension to the whole composition.
Sustainability and energy efficiency were paramount. The exterior walls boasted an impressive R-30 insulation rating, while the roof stood at an exceptional R-60 for peak performance. The roof canopy was cleverly configured to provide welcome shade during summer and maximize solar exposure in winter. Polished concrete flooring added thermal mass, and operable windows on opposing walls encouraged cross-ventilation.
